Former President, John Dramani Mahama has blamed the Akufo-Addo government for the demolition of a building belonging to the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana.

Mr. Mahama said security officials in the country could act quickly to avert the unfortunate incident.

The Nigerian High Commissioner’s residence in Accra was reportedly stormed by armed men with bulldozers, who demolished a block of uncompleted apartments on the property on Friday night.

The building was being constructed to house staff and visiting diplomats to the High Commission.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration said an investigation has been launched into the incident, to find and prosecute the perpetrators.

But Mahama, in a post via twitter said, the situation not being prevented earlier shows the lawlessness under the current Akufo-Addo government.

“It beats my imagination how such violent & noisy destruction could occur without our Security Agents picking up the signals to avert the damage

“This may just be another reflection of the pervasive insecurity & lawlessness Government itself has visited on the once peaceful Ghana,” he said

The former president however implored the Akufo-Addo government to quickly resolve the issues surrounding the demolition before the situation possibly escalates.

He called on both parties (Nigeria and Ghana) to be calm and avoid reprisal attacks.
