Ings is the first Saints player to score 20 goals in a Premier League season since James Beattie in 2002-03.

Danny Ings has become the first Southampton player to score 20 Premier League goals.

The English international reached the mark of 20 goals in the Saints 1-1 drawn game with Brighton & Hove Albion after a decent equalizer in the 66-minute.

Ings, who joined Premier League, club Southampton on an initial loan until the end of the season was obstructed by injuries in his first term at the St. Mary’s. He scored eight goals in his first season.

 

 

His ability to influence games this season has led to the admiration of his manager; Ralph Hasenhuttl who was on the verge of exit from the club following a poor run of form including Leicester's 9-0 demolition in October. He praised the frontman after the game for his impressive performance to elevate Southampton from the relegation threat.

“The progress he has made in this year is amazing," Ralph Hasenhuttl after the game.

"He is fit, he works so hard, he wins the ball so many times.

“This is definitely a striker who deserves so many goals."

The 27-year old is joint with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the Golden Boot Award on 20 goals, three short of Jamie Vardy who occupies the top spot.

The Leicester City Premier League winner is in contention of securing the 2019/20 Premier League Golden boot with two games left to finish the season.

 

 

The winner of the accolade for two consecutive seasons in the Premier League, Mohamed Salah has not scored in the Reds two games so far and is still stacked at 19.

The Egyptian is seeking to win the award for the third time and must score more than four in the remaining two games of the season.
