Respected Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo fondly called RMD has advised the Nigeria Customs Services to release seized food items in its possession to cushion the effect of the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.

Taking to his Instagram page, the movie star opined that the food items can serve as a relief to those who cannot afford to stock up their homes.

“Sitting here wondering if this won’t be a good time for government to ask Customs about all the plenty seized rice, tomato, vegetable oil, and all the other food items they have in their possession and give out to our people in need.

“Whilst thanking them for reduced fuel prices at this time (inject smiley face)and all the other efforts so far, food is a major part of this lockdown. I know sometimes the agencies of govt don’t work as a team but please this is the time for customs to step and tell us how much relief they can bring to Nigerians #giveoutseizedfooditems #customshelpus #rmdsaysso,” he wrote.

President Muhamadu Buhari in an address to Nigerians on Sunday announced that his administration was putting Lagos, Ogun and Abuja on lockdown for two weeks in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Lagos and Abuja currently have the highest numbers of confirmed cases and Ogun is being shut down due to its proximity to Lagos.

Known for his versatility in movie roles, RMD is one of Nollywood’s most respected movie stars.

His career goes beyond the movie industry as in 2008 he was appointed the Special Adviser of Culture and Tourism to the then Governor of Delta State Emmanuel Uduaghan.

He then became the commissioner for the Culture and Tourism of Delta State, Nigeria in 2009.

His tenure ended in 2015.
