The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Akufo-Addo led government to significantly reduce fuel prices as parts of the country enters into a 14-day lockdown.

According to the NDC a drastic reduction in fuel prices is needed to support commercial drivers and car owners who would be limiting the number of proposed passengers on board as part of efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

“Let me reiterate the call for government to reduce fuel prices drastically in order to cushion drivers, GPRTU and car owners as government forces them to limit the number of passengers”

A statement from the party, signed by its National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, said the reduction will supplement efforts by these drivers affected by the lockdown directive, which will ensure voluntary adherence to the measures spelt out by President Akufo-Addo.

While lauding the announcement of a partial lockdown, Mr. Gyamfi also called for adequate protection for frontline health workers involved in the fight against the virus.

He also urged government to addresses the acute water shortage that Ghanaians in several parts of Accra are experiencing, so they can have access to potable water during the 14-day lockdown which kicks start today, March 30.
