Covid-19: Foreign Minister Summons Chinese Ambassador to Ghana over Inhumane Treatment of Ghanaians in China

Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has expressed displeasure in inhumane treatment meted out to Ghanaians and other African nationals in China in relation to the covid-19 pandemic.

The minister wants the Chinese government to immediately address the issue.

Consequently, Ayorkor Botchway also summoned the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang to register the country's displeasure and also bring “the [Chinese Officials responsible for these inhumane acts] to order”

There have been reports of many African nationals being evicted from their homes and discriminated against in China over fears that they may be bringing the virus to the country.

In a statement, Ms Ayorkor Botchwey, condemned the act and said a formal communication from the government of Ghana will be issued within the next 24 hours to address the situation at hand.
