Coronavirus Nigeria - 457 new cases, as the under-500 cases count continues for the 5th consecutive day

On the 5th of August 2020, The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 457 new confirmed cases and 17 deaths in Nigeria.

This is the fifth consecutive day that the total number of daily coronavirus infections has stayed under 500. 

According to the NCDC, till date, 44,890 cases have been confirmed, 32,165 cases have been discharged and 927 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. With over 32,000 recoveries so far, Lagos still remains the headquarters of the diseases with 76 infections on Wednesday, taking the state’s total to 15,511. A total of 192 people have died in Lagos with over 13,000 recoveries recorded.

In terms of total numbers, Abuja follows Lagos with (4,163), followed by Oyo (2,807), Edo (2,328), Rivers (1,894), Kano (1,599), Delta (1,541), Kaduna (1,507), Ogun (1,416), Plateau (1,283), Ondo (1,243), Enugu (880), Ebonyi (819), Kwara (800), Katsina (746), Borno (628), Abia (625), Gombe (620), Osun (586), and Bauchi (568).

Imo State has recorded 472 cases, Benue (356), Nasarawa (343), Bayelsa (342),  Jigawa (322), Niger (226), Akwa Ibom (221), Adamawa (176), Sokoto (154), Ekiti (153), Anambra (142),  Kebbi (90), Zamfara (77), Taraba (72), Cross River (68), Yobe (67), while Kogi state has recorded 5 cases only.

The 457 new cases are reported from 21 states- Lagos(137), FCT(76), Plateau(40), Rivers(35), Enugu(34), Oyo(25), Abia(23), Delta(12), Ebonyi (11), Edo(11), Cross River(10), Kwara(10), Kaduna(9), Anambra(7), Ogun(5), Bauchi (3), Imo(3), Nasarawa (2), Osun(2), Ekiti (1), Kano(1).
