Movie producer, Peter Sedufia has questioned the Ghanaian government's decision to keep cinemas closed despite the go-ahead to open churches.

According to him, it costs more economically to operate churches than it does to operate cinemas. He expressed his confusion at the fact that the President eased restrictions but kept one of Ghana's major sources of revenue closed.

The award-winning producer bemoaned the verdict and said that it would have been better if the restrictions were left in place instead of the partial easing that shows favors to some institutions over others. He explained that it should have been all or nothing; a total removal of all the restrictions or no easing at all.

”The same electricity would be used, same equipment, same staff, and same cost of running a service. Imagine the cost of running a service is Ghc 2,000. Multiplied by 5 services equals Ghc 10,000. Oh, this is minus church maintenance cost by the way.

"So, while the church spent less to run a service of mass congregants before COVID 19, now, they’ll spend more to run services of very low congregants in sessions. In effect, easing of the restriction on their activity would only inquire them excruciating cost,” he snapped.

"A church of 2,000 congregants…25% of that is 500 congregants. Maximum attendance of 100 people would give you 5 services. (NB: Some churches have 5,000+ congregants but let’s base on 2,000)."

"I’d have wished their restriction was lifted completely, or, not at all. The issue on cinema closures is beyond comprehension. But, I’ll leave that for later." - he concluded.
