Former Real Madrid goalkeeper, Iker Casillas has announced retirement from football.

The World Cup winner who suffered a heart attack last year have decided to hang his gloves after returning to training a couple of months later.

He will work closely with Florentino Perez as an adviser in a position that will be further defined in the coming weeks.

The important thing is that Florentino wants to keep Casillas close, and Iker agrees.

It will be similar to the role played by Zinedine Zidane in his day.

Now 39 and practically retired since suffering a heart attack during a training session with Porto on May 1, 2019, Casillas is waiting for his current club to contest the Taca de Portugal final against Benfica on August 1 before officially announcing his departure.

“The important thing is the path you travel and the people who accompany you, not the destination to which it takes you, because that with work and effort, comes alone and I think I can say, without hesitation, that it has been the path and the dream destination,” he wrote on Twitter.
