The death of a Nigerian, reportedly shot by a police officer, has triggered some Nigerian residents in Gomoa Buduburam, compelling them to besiege a police station in the area.

The deceased – identified as Walter Billions – was shot after purportedly threatening to harm some police officers who were called to control a situation involving him (Walter) chasing residents with cutlasses in the late hours of Friday, July 17, 2020.

Kasoa District Commander, Superintendent Samuel Odame who confirmed this said the deceased attempted attacking the police.

“That the team rushed to the scene and met a young man armed with two cutlasses chasing people. Victim on seeing police attacked police with the machete. Police in an attempt to disarm victim shot him in the leg but the victim grew more violent and aggressive and was shot on the left arm to disarm him but he fell down and passed away,” a statement from the Public Relations Officer for the Central Regional Police Command, DSP Irene Oppong further explained.

According to Adom News’ Seth Ankomah Adjei, the Nigerian community is seeking answers as they do not understand why the man was shot to death.

They further accused the police of shooting Precious on purpose, and have reported to the District Police Commander for investigation.

But, Kasoa Divisional Police Commander dispelled the allegation noting that such information is false.
