Kenyan actress, Lupita Nyongo celebrated her 37th birthday on the 1st of March, spending her special day with her friends and fans in Nigeria.

She was surrounded by Nigerian celebrities, both past and present as they sought to make the day memorable for her. 

The birthday celebration was graced by celebrities like Teniola a.k.a Teni Makanaki(I wanna be a Billionaire…), the Koko Master Deji Banjo a.k.a Dbanj, Ebuka, and Chamamanda Adichie amongst a host of others. 

The Oscar winning actress is currently in Nigeria for her new movie collaboration with the Nigerian writer Chimamanda Adichie on the movie adaptation of Adichie’s famous book “Americanah.

It was only a coincidence that her birthday happened to come up during that time as she is fiercely devoted to her work, not allowing even her personal life to interfere. 

Lupita was born on the first of March 1983 in Mexico, but was raised in Kenya until she was sixteen. She is fluent in English, Spanish and Swahili. She is the second of her family’s six children.

The Mexican-born Kenyan actress got hugely popular when she starred in Marvel’s “Black Panther” movie as Nakia.

The movie gathered a record-breaking $1billion at the box office. She is the first African actress to win Best Supporting Actress award.

She wore a colourful native style mini dress with leaf patterns and a rumpled  neck line and she proudly posted a message for her fans on that day saying,

it’s my birthday and I will party if I want to #naijalife

Lupita is a role model to many young black girls now, as they can obviously see that the sky is the limit as long as one is willing to dream big and put in effort into achieving the dreams.

The Multitalented actress has also successfully directed a handful of movies and she she has starred has the face of prominent magazines at different points in her life.

She encourages young black girls to understand the power that they posses and her existence alone is proof that of that power. Still young, she herself still has a long way to go, and a lot more years to inspire the young African girls.
