Juventus have rejected an approach from Barcelona to sign defender Matthijs de Ligt, according to the Daily Mail.

De Ligt rejected a move to Barca last season and completed his move to Juventus for a fee of $84.3 million, becoming the fourth most expensive signing of the summer transfer window.

The Ajax former famed academy player has had an underwhelming season at Turin and Barcelona is looking to offer a £66m to bring him to Camp Nou yet the proposal has been rejected by the Italian giants.

Chief football officer Fabio Paratici views De Ligt as a long-term project and moved early to sign him and has no interest in letting him go at this stage.

The 20-year-old will be a prospective commander of Juventus backline assessing his days at Ajax especially in their triumphant Champions League campaign last season, which he played a key role.

Barca believes that the Dutchman’s dip in form is as a result of Juventus style of play, therefore, attracting him to Spain with a better playing approach will redeem his performance and get his name on the lips of fans again.
