“He's closing in on this deal with Tottenham paying between £15m and £20m for this one-year loan to bring him back to North London, seven years after we saw him leaving this training ground for the last time.

"Daniel Levy was on his hands-free as he arrived here earlier this morning and he's in the building. Jose Mourinho and his players had a late finish last night in Bulgaria and he played his cards close to his chest.

"There's not much that Gareth Bale will have to do when he arrives here. He'll sign the contract and he'll become a Tottenham player. If he registers before midday today, he will be eligible to face Southampton over the weekend.

"Issues around his match fitness means that may be unrealistic to expect a debut. The No 9 is currently free at Tottenham and you wonder if that's a number Bale would be interested in."
