Arsenal have submitted offers to Paris Saint-Germain for striker Edison Cavani, according to El Chiringuito.

The 32-year-old Uruguay international’s contract at the Parc des Princes expires at the end of the season and he is free to talk to foreign clubs.

Mikel Arteta is set to strengthen his squad to be able to compete for honors with the injury of Calum Chambers a setback for the London club to find a replacement.

That does not leave Arsenal out of the race for a forward after being linked with a move for Edison Cavani.

Arteta earlier revealed that he wants to improve and expand his squad therefore the opening of the January transfer window is an opportunity to amend his team.

Arsenal are also concerned about the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as he enters the final 18 months of his deal at the Emirates and could be putting plans in place to sign a replacement.

“I want to improve the players I have here, get everybody on board and understanding what we're trying to do. If something extra comes up and we think it's the right opportunity to improve what we have, let's do it,” he added.

The Gunners will be looking for their third consecutive win when they travel to Selhurst Park to play Roy Hodgeson’s Crystal Palace over the weekend.

According to former Gunners manager, Unai Emery talking to Spanish radio station El Larguero as translated by Marca on Cavani joining Arsenal, he said: "He is a competitive animal, a winner and someone that trains in the highest demand.

"From the outside I do not see it so difficult that he can come in this winter market. He is very passionate and would be a magnificent signing.

Manchester United is also revealed to be in the race for the PSG foward.
