The Operations Director of the Eleven Steering Member Committee of the Concerned Traders Association, Mr Kwabena Fosu has emphasized that 98% of the entire population of traders have move out of the Kumasi Central Market to racecourse paving way for work to begin.

He therefore called on authorities to halt petty traders on the streets to prevent them from ceasing customers which in turn affects the capital of Racecourse traders.

According to Mr. Fosu, if such activities are not ceased for the market women at racecourse to enjoy their stay with customers, the Concerned Traders Association will have no option than to encourage their members allocated to join the streets since others see it as an affordable way to get many clients and boost their capital.

“Kejetia traders who sold on tables before evacuated to race-course and Abinkyi have tables reserved for them in the New market.

“The petty traders at central market will all have a place at Racecourse to sell per the directives of the authority. Our appeal is that, we do not want a case where the capital of those who have been moved out of Central market to Kejetia will liquidate due to low patronage hence our appeal that any petty trader by the roadside should be ceased.

“If by next week, such people are not forced to stop selling by the roadside, we will encourage our members to join them.

The executives of Central Market announced yesterday, February 12, 2020 that traders at central market with allocations have keys to move to Racecourse as ordered by the authorities. Chairman of the Eleven Steering Committee, Mr Daniel Ankomah addressed that the Zone 1 and 2 traders were to evacuate yesterday for works to begin at dawn on Thursday, February 13, 2020.

“Zone 1 and 2 have been given allocation and keys to move out to racecourse. It is not advisable to go on the streets and sell. Racecourse is much better than selling in the streets. We have prepared the place to suit their standard and people will patronize.

"We have provided them a car to ease their migration. Everything is on course and there is nothing to fear," he added.

Scraps at the market rumored to be contracted to Yakubu Tony Aidoo was dismissed by Mr. Emmanuel Danso, the Liaison officer for Contracta Construction Ghana Limited.

“He has no duties to perform on the market. The scraps belongs to KMA although the traders built their own roofs in the market yet it is now in the hands of KMA. We have handed everything over to the Mayor and his people to issue permit to scarp dealers.

“Our (Contracta) duty is for such people to issue their permit given by the KMA. Then we can give them safety procedures to prevent any injuries. Such will be trained and given badges in order to make process safe,” he said.
