Thiago Alcantara has joined three Liverpool players nominated by FIFA for the Best Men’s Player of the Year award scheduled on December 17, 2020.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and injured Virgil van Dijk are part of the list which includes previous winners, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo along with European Best player, Robert Lewandowski.

Alcantara joined Liverpool in the summer having won the Champions League trophy with Bayern Munich and has featured twice for the Reds twice, against Chelsea and in the Merseyside Derby where he sustained an injury after a shaggy Richarlison’s tackle with resulted in a red card.

Alisson Becker is in contention for the Best Men’s Goalkeeper, welcoming strict competition from Champions League winner, Manuel Neur. Also among the nominees in the category is Marc Andre Ter Stegen, Jan Oblak and Courtois.

Surprisingly, Leeds United coach, Marcelo Bielsa has been named among Jurgen, Klopp, Han Dieter Flick, Zidane and Julen Lopetegui for the Men’s coach of the year.

The Liverpool manager is the current holder of the award after conquering Europe with his team, winning the Super Cup and finishing in second place in the Premier League last year.

FIFA will announce the three finalists in each of the seven categories listed above on 11 December 2020.
