Accra Floods: One Dead, as NADMO moves to Rescue Victims

One person has been confirmed dead after flooding near Odawna in Accra on Tuesday.

The victim is believed to have died by electrocution during the downpour.

This was confirmed by Lt. Col. Mfum from the Ghana Armed Forces, who is part of a joint rescue team, of the military and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

He noted that the team has since retrieved the body of the deceased

Per reports from Joyonline, about 20 persons have also been rescued so far.

Some parts of Accra are flooded following hours of rains. The rains started during the late hours of Monday, June 8, 2020.

The worst affected areas reportedly include Adabraka Sahara, Adabraka Timbaland, Adabraka Aponkye, Odorna, Kingsby Junction, Graphic Road, Agbgbloshie and surrounding areas.

The downpour, has left people and goods in these affected areas displaced.

Other areas in the national capital badly affected by the flooding include Odaw, Avenor and Dansoman.

Some residents have taken to social media to register their displeasure at the authorities' handling of the flooding situation in Accra.
