406 Persons Arrested for Defying Movement Restriction Directive – Police

A total of 406 people across the country have been arrested for flouting the government's movement restrictions directive amid the covid-19 pandemic.

This was disclosed by the the Head of Prosecutions for the Greater Accra Region of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Lydia Donkor.

ACP Lydia Donkor noted that, out of the number, 103 are in custody and that 248 have been granted bail.

She also explained that 41 have also been processed for court.

The Director-General of Operations, DCOP Mr Boadu Peprah had earlier asserted that, the Ghana Police Service will toughen measures in enforcing the partial lockdown directive in affected areas this week.

He warned that individuals found loitering will be arrested as the third week of the lockdown begins today, Monday, April 13, 2020.

“Now we have entered the third-week so we expect everyone to stay at home. If they refuse to stay at home, now we are going to arrest people we see loitering. Now we expect everybody to respect the presidential order. Stay at home and you protect yourself. So from Monday going we are going to be tough.”

Already, some two persons have been apprehended by the police for flouting the partial lockdown by organising a pool party at West Legon in Accra.

Also, a couple together with 44 of their guests were arrested on Saturday for organising a marriage ceremony at Akaporiso, a suburb of Obuasi.

Currently, Ghana’s Covid-19 case count stands at 566 with 8 deaths and 17 recoveries.
