2,902,526 eligible Ghanaians have been registered for the Ghana Card by the National Identification Authority (NIA) in Greater Accra, Volta and Oti Regions according to Mr. Francis Palmdeti, Head of Corporate Affairs of the NIA.

The National Identification Card, known by many as the Ghana Card is issued to every Ghanaian living in Ghana and abroad, and to qualified foreigners residing in Ghana; a state of the art and is the only personality document to be used for purposes of identification in Ghana. The exercise started on June 4, last year and per reports, a figure of 2,590, 526 cards had been printed and 1,718, 021 cards had been issued to applicants in the three regions as at Saturday, September 14, 2019.

The Volta Region recorded 556,559 people registered, with 523,984 cards printed and 395,175 issued as the Oti Region logged a number of 387, 057 had been registered with 236,348 cards printed. 187,643 cards have been issued.

The mass registration exercise according to the Head of Corporate Affairs of the NIA ended on Saturday in the Oti Region. He revealed that all registration centers with excesses will continue to be printed and issued to aspirants from Monday, September 16, to September 20. The Volta Region will also continue to issue printed cards to applicants registered at the various centers from Monday, September 16 to Friday, September 20. He spoke that no registration will be done.
