224 Ghanaian Evacuees from UK arrive Home

Some 224 Ghanaians stranded in the UK have arrived home through government’s special arrangement aimed at evacuating stranded nationals abroad amid the covid-19 pandemic.

The exercise dubbed “Operation Return Home” comes on the back of moves by government, to reduce the scourge of the pandemic on Ghanaians caught up abroad due to international border restrictions following the outbreak.

All returnees have, since their arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, gone into mandatory quarantine at various hotels they booked ahead of touchdown in the country June 17..

The returnees had agreed to pay for hotel bills and their flight

The government’s pre-condition for evacuation was that the stranded citizens bear the full cost of their 14-day mandatory quarantine when they arrive in the country.

These arrivals will be quarantined at the Airport View Hotel, Alisa Hotel and Marriot Hotel.

The second and last batch of returnees from the European state are expected in the country on Sunday, June 21, 2020.

Wednesday’s returnees include 108 males, 103 females, 9 infants, and 4 children.

Prior to this, Ghana had earlier conducted similar exercises for some of her nationals in Kuwait and the United States.

The Ghana Embassy in Berlin is also in talks with the Foreign Affairs Ministry to help evacuate citizens in that country as well.
