A total of 16,963,306 persons have been captured in the newly compiled voters’ register ahead of Ghana’s 2020 general elections.

From the provisional figure, women constituted  51.73 percent of registered voters while men made up 48.27 percent.

The figure - which includes some 30,814 persons registered in a two-day mop up exercise - was announced today [August 12] by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, pending processes of deduplication and adjudication.

The EC boss expects the figure to drop after the commission finalizes the processes.

“The process of deduplication and adjudication, which are currently going will flag multiple registrations in the system,” she said.

“Additionally, the challenge system put in place during the registration and exhibition exercise will further flag unqualified voters on the register,” Jean Mensa noted further.

She noted that the upcoming processes “will contribute to the cleaning of the register and ensure its integrity and credibility ahead of the 2020 election.”
